Screenings
Scrapper (12)
Thursday 13 February, 7pm
English with descriptive subtitles
Warnings: rude gesture, brief moderate violence
Scrapper is a British drama about 12-year-old Georgie, who lives alone in her London flat after her mum dies. She tricks social services into thinking she has a guardian and manages just fine—until her long-lost dad, Jason, suddenly shows up. At first, Georgie doesn’t want him around, but as they spend time together, they start to bond. Jason tries to prove he can be a real dad, while Georgie learns to let him in. Mixing fun and heartfelt moments, Scrapper is a warm, imaginative story about family, love, and second chances.
The Peasants (15)
Thursday 13 March, 7pm
Polish with descriptive subtitles
Warnings: sexual violence, strong threat, nudity
The Peasants is a Polish animated film based on Władysław Reymont’s novel. It follows Jagna, a young woman in a 19th-century village, who is pressured into marrying an older, wealthy farmer despite loving his son. Trapped in a world of strict traditions and gossip, she struggles for independence but faces harsh judgment from the villagers. The film, created with hand-painted animation, brings the beauty and brutality of rural life to life. Mixing stunning visuals with a powerful story, The Peasants is a moving tale about love, freedom, and the struggles of a woman against society’s expectations.
