In light of recent events, Deaf Action has told Edinburgh Deaf Sports and Social Club (EDSSC) that it is no longer permitted to use the premises in Albany Street.
The former Chair of EDSSC was recently convicted of a number of sexual offenses, one of which was on Deaf Action’s premises. In the aftermath of the conviction and sentencing, our trust in the Office of EDSSC has been damaged further, due to its handling of the situation.
Because of this, we are cutting all ties with the Office of EDSSC. Going forward, EDSSC cannot use our address for correspondence, and access to our building has been revoked. This means that no EDSSC activities will take place at Deaf Action.
It is important that Deaf Action remains a place of inclusion and trust. Moving forward, we will be offering appropriate support to EDSSC members, as they have also been affected by this situation.
We understand that this might be unsettling news to our communities. We want to make clear that deaf people will always be welcome at Deaf Action. We look forward to hosting events as soon as we can open our doors again and will ensure that deaf people can enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
We are here to support everyone in our community. If you have been affected by this news or have any concerns, please contact socialcare@deafaction.org
