Edinburgh Deaf Festival Presents: New Work Showcase

Join us for a special evening of bold new work from deaf creatives at the Blackwood Bar.

Presented by Edinburgh Deaf Festival, this event offers a platform for deaf artists to share new work currently in development. From comedy and storytelling to creative performance, the showcase celebrates fresh ideas and original works. This is an opportunity to experience work in progress, support deaf creatives, and connect with others working across the arts.

From 7:30pm, three deaf creatives will each present 30 minutes of new work in development. Expect a dynamic mix of styles including comedy, storytelling and performance.

Showcase

Leah Fransisco (in development)
Leah shares new material in a more personal and visual format. Moving beyond traditional stand-up structure, she experiments with storytelling, images and autobiographical moments to explore her journey from growing up as a deaf child in Greece, to finding her deaf and queer identity in the UK, to her life in Scotland today.

Jonathan Reid – Deaf People (Work in Progress)
Jonathan Reid presents new material from his developing show Deaf People — a humorous and thought-provoking exploration of identity, communication and cultural boundaries.

Amy Murray – Dirty Deaf Diary (In Development)
Amy Murray shares excerpts from Dirty Deaf Diary, a bold and unapologetic new piece blending stand-up, lived experience and political commentary. With sharp humour and raw honesty, Amy explores dating disasters, Deaf identity, interpreters, government cuts and the everyday absurdities of navigating a hearing world.
