With Sign Language Week just around the corner, running from 16 – 22 March 2026, we are excited to share some news and special upcoming events for you to enjoy and celebrate.
We will be introducing a very special Deaf Like Me storytelling series, as well as hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday 19 March. Keep reading to find out more information about what Sign Language Week is and what we have planned.
What is Sign Language week?
Sign Language Week is celebrated each year in March, to coincide with the anniversary of the recognition of BSL by the British Government in 2003, and help raise awareness of the BSL community, culture and importance of Sign Language.

Deaf Like Me Storytelling Series
Deaf Like Me is a Deaf Action BSL-first project where each participant shares their story in a monologue-style format, signing directly to camera.
The aim is to create a space where deaf people can express their experiences in their own language, in their own way, without scripts or restrictions.
This series is about capturing the wide range of deaf experiences. There is no single story. It can be about identity, language, community, work, family, creativity or personal journeys. For some, this may be about being a role model or sharing achievements in areas such as sport, career or the arts. For others, it may be about everyday experiences, finding community, or moments that have shaped who they are.
We want to reflect both the visible and the everyday — from leadership and success to personal growth and lived experience. Every story is valid, and every perspective adds something important.
We would love to feature anyone who experiences life from a deaf perspective and would like to share their story and help to build a collection of stories that represent the diversity, strength and identity of the Deaf community today.

Coffee Morning at Deaf Action
Thursday 19 March | 10am
Join us at the Blackwood Bar to celebrate Sign Language Week at our Coffee Morning. Enjoy a catch up with friends, tuck into some sweet treats, and have the chance to meet our team. Our friendly staff will also be there to answer any questions you have about our different services.
