“After reaching out to Deaf Action’s Employability service, I met with Carole who invited me in for an appointment. We discussed my CV and she helped me look for vacancies online. Carole suggested we met with a recruiter, who could help me on my job search.

During my first appointment with Carole, we saw the newly refurbished Blackwood Bar. While I was there, I met my friend who told me he would be working in the café during the Edinburgh Deaf Festival, so I asked Carole if there were any opportunities for employment there.

The following week I had a meeting with Carole where we applied for various jobs, and a few days later I received an email saying I had an interview at Primark. Carole supported me to respond, including asking for an interpreter. She met with me before my interview, providing me with advice and support to get me ready, and we even did a mock interview to prepare.

My interview went really well. I knew I could have answered better but I was happy that my first ever interview was over with. Two weeks later I received an email from Primark offering me the job! I emailed Carole straight away to let her know and she offered to meet me before my induction chat with one of the managers, which I was glad of because I was suddenly very nervous, but she put my mind at ease.

The following week I had my training day at the Blackwood Bar and given my shifts over the Edinburgh Deaf Festival.

Thanks to Carole and Deaf Action for helping me on my employability journey and helping my successfully get  not one but two jobs!”
