Earlier this month, Deaf Action was delighted to welcome the Deputy First Minister of Scotland, Kate Forbes, to our headquarters in Edinburgh as part of Deaf Awareness Week 2025.
Ms Forbes joined us at our Albany Street offices in Edinburgh to learn more about Deaf Action’s wide-ranging work and to meet with staff and members of the deaf community who benefit from our services. She spent time engaging with team members from several of our services, and was especially pleased to have the opportunity to chat with one of our Youth Club members, hearing first-hand about the positive impact our youth services can have.
As part of her visit, Ms Forbes was given a short tour of our historic building, learning about Deaf Action’s long-standing legacy and the important role Edinburgh and Scotland have played in shaping global deaf heritage.
She later visited our Golden Amber Club, where she met more members of our community and joined in signing “Happy Deaf Awareness Week” to celebrate the occasion. You can view the video clip of this here.
We were also able to speak with the Deputy First Minister about the current challenges facing third-sector organisations, including funding pressures, and the importance of continued Government support to ensure we can maintain and grow services for the deaf community across Scotland.
It was a pleasure to welcome the Deputy First Minister to Deaf Action and for the opportunity to share our language, culture, and heritage.
