This month Deaf Action was delighted to welcome Westminster’s MP for Midlothian, Kirsty McNeill, to our headquarters in Edinburgh.
Minister McNeill joined us in our head office on Albany Street to discover more about what we do as an organisation and meet some of our staff and service users. She was keen to find out about the difficult funding challenges that charities such as Deaf Action are facing at the moment and how vital Governmental support is in helping us to be able to continue to provide the services and support to the deaf community.
Minister McNeill was also able to meet one of our service users, Pam, and witness the impact that Deaf Action has had on her daily life and discover the importance of our services on peoples lives. She also had the opportunity to discuss social issues which affect the deaf community such as isolation and mental health and how Deaf Action is committed to trying to tackle these problems through our Wellbeing, Counselling and Befriending Service.
We also spent the day introducing Minister McNeill to the number of social clubs and groups which Deaf Action provides the community as well as our new upcoming Employability Service in Edinburgh, which aims to support deaf people in Edinburgh access and progress in employment.
