We’re looking for a friendly, motivated, and reliable Café Worker to help us create a welcoming and inclusive café environment within the Deaf community.

Hours: 21 hours per week and 14 hours per week

Salary: £13.45 per hour (Real Living Wage Scotland)
Reporting to: Office Manager / Commercial Manager
Contract: Permanent

Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. About you
We’re looking for a friendly, motivated, and reliable Café Worker to help us create a welcoming and inclusive café environment within the Deaf community.
Experience working in a café, hospitality, retail, or customer-facing environment is desirable.
You’ll be comfortable working in a busy environment, preparing drinks and food, handling customer orders, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and customer service.
Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, empathy, and a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion are essential.
As this is a new café venture, we’re looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and excited to be part of building a positive and welcoming customer experience from the beginning.

The role
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, including coffee, tea, and speciality beverages
- Take customer orders and process payments using the till/POS system
- Prepare light food items, sandwiches, pastries, and snacks
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the café
- Restock supplies and assist with stock rotation
- Provide friendly and professional customer service
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve issues politely
- Follow food safety, health, and safety regulations
- Assist with opening and closing duties as required
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Requirements
Essential:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Good time management and reliability
- Basic numeracy and cash-handling skills
- Flexibility to work weekends and shifts
- Food Hygiene Certificate (preferred but not essential)
Desirable:
- Previous café, barista, hospitality, or retail experience
- Knowledge of coffee preparation and latte art
- Holds a licence to serve alcohol.
