Human Resources Adviser

Full time (35 hours per week)

Salary: £30,000 – £32,500

Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. About you

You will be an ambitious HR Adviser with CIPD membership or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ experience working in a generalist HR role. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills and a solid grasp of UK employment legislation and HR best practice. With a keen eye for detail, you will be proficient in IT and HR database management with strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.

The role

Our people are important at Deaf Action and the HR Adviser role is integral to the creation and delivery of the HR strategy which aligns to Deaf Action’s objectives.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Advise and support line managers on employee relations casework including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence and redundancy.
  • Advise managers on the terms and conditions of employment and knowledge share best practice with them.
  • Manage the recruitment process including writing job descriptions, posting job adverts, organising interviews and provide advice on recruitment and selection strategies.
  • Manage employee records and data input using the HR database.
  • Continuously review and develop HR policy and procedures to ensure legislation is adhered to and best practice is in place.
  • Ensure managers are working in line with current HR policies and processes.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for line managers where required.
  • Support the annual salary review process.
  • Participate in the implementation of specific projects, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation.
  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced HR provider.
  • Support the running of the Staff Representative Group.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support the Office Assistant to ensure administration for HR processes is completed efficiently and on a timely basis.
