Important accessibility update – external lift at Deaf Action, 49 Albany Street, Edinburgh
We want to let you know that the external lift at the front of Deaf Action’s building is currently out of order.
Unfortunately, after a full assessment, we’ve been told that the lift cannot be repaired and will need to be completely replaced. We are working hard to install a brand-new lift as soon as possible.
However, due to our location and building, we have been required to apply to Edinburgh City Council for planning permission before the new lift can be installed. Unfortunately, this means it will not be in place in time for the Edinburgh Deaf Festival this August.
This means there will be no wheelchair access available at the front of the building during the festival. We understand this will be disappointing news, and we’re very sorry for the impact this will have on some of our visitors.
Inside the building, our internal lifts are still working and available for use. If you are able to manage steps, our staff will be on hand to offer support.
However, we want to be clear that we are sadly unable to accommodate wheelchair users who rely on lift access to enter the building during the festival period.
We are committed to ensuring Edinburgh Deaf Festival is as inclusive as possible, and we will do everything we can to support visitors. If you have any questions about access or want to discuss how we can help, please contact us directly.
