Salary: In line with national living wage
Hours: Zero hour contract with the expectation of working additional hours in August, during our 10 day event, Edinburgh Deaf Festival

About you
Are you friendly and enjoy providing good customer service?
At Deaf Action, Bar Staff serve drinks and snacks, maintaining a clean, friendly atmosphere and assisting with customer service enquiries as required and directed by the Bar Coordinators. We are looking for Bar Staff to join our team to help with bar service in the Blackwood bar which is open to deaf and hearing customers. We have a busy programme of events with regular customers and groups joining us.

The role
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- To provide excellent service in our bar, greeting customers and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food to customers at the bar.
- Ensure that all legal requirements (bar licensing laws) are always met.
- Ensure all standards of work, working practices, productivity and standards are adhered to.
- Ensure wastage and bar duties are carried out on a regular basis to the correct standards.
- Ensure effective security of keys, cash, stock.
- Ensure that no out-of-date produce is sold or consumed on the premises.
- Ensure that cleaning maintenance is maintained during working hours e.g toilets, tables, Bar area, floors.
Person specification (essential)
- Experience of café/bar work (training will be provided)
- Understanding of food hygiene (training can be provided)
- Ability to communicate using British Sign Language
- Strong understanding of deaf people including deaf culture
- Ability to learn new things effectively
- Great communication & team working skills
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and positive outlook
- Able to work during the out of social hours (Thursday-Saturday, occasional Sundays). Available for at least one shift per week. Additional hours may be available during Edinburgh Deaf Festival in August and one-off events.
